This simple, minimalist vase was made using the ancient incamiciato or overlaying technique, where a layer of lattimo (milky) glass is fused with a layer of transparent coloured glass. The production of incamiciato or cased glass flourished in the early 1900s with designers such as Carlo Scarpa and Tomaso Buzzi.
